hi, Im looking to buy a thank you present for someone and I found out he likes whiskey... I know nothing about it but have heard him mention single and double malts. I dont know what to get, and would like it to be a surprise, so if your a drinker and you can recommend me something in the price range of £20 to £30, please do! Thanks :cheers2:
Any scottish single malt will be welcomed by a whiskey fan..
Don't forget to mix it with coke..... that always impresses the whiskey drinkers ;)

Lagavulin's always reliable and a safe bet. Laphroaig's good if you like an earthy, peaty whisky and Higland Park is always well received. All widely available. Under £30 I also really like Ledaig which is less easy to find but has been in my local supermarket lately. Anyhow stick towards your upper limit, buy a single malt and you won't go far wrong.

That would be the brown, sugar-based fizzy drink...right?

A mate of mine bought a vat of the stuff when he visited Scotland - think he's got another 15 years for it to mature before he could sell you a bottle though :(
another vote Laphroaig, and they do gift wrappings to support the lazy donor. the Quarter Cask would be in the desired price range.

Tried quite a few single malts and what has struck me is how vastly different they taste depending on what wood they are aged in.
I know its pretty common and doesn't have mush snob factor, but I think Glenmorangie takes alot of beating.
I am partial to Glenmorangie too. And Glenfiddich. And another vote for Laphroig too.

I love smokey Islay whiskies (never been a big fan of Speyside products). However, if you want to impress without breaking the bank try a single grain like Cameron Brig from Pittenweem. It is unusual and very tasty and always a conversation starter. And if you need credibility because most think it is a bastard child; it carries the Royal Warrant.

Johnny Walker is great in coke. That is about all its good for. Whiskey and milk is excellent if you have a cold.
