View Full Version : VHS vs. Betamax - Round 2
appears the talks between the 2 groups around Sony (Blu-ray-DVD, more info: http://www.blu-ray.com/ - http://www.blu-raydisc.com/ ) on one hand and Toshiba (HD-DVD, more info: http://www.hddvdprg.com/ ) on the other have finally ended without any agreement about a common standard.
same shit, different pile, it seems.
wonder if we will see a 3rd standard, Phillips, who started Video 2000, which was the best system IMO, considers doing some research.

From a retail/rental point of view having the different formats is going to be a buying nightmare. We made the desicion last month to finally put VHS to bed and buy in no more retail/rental. Im just keeping my fingers crossed they come to an agreement and bring out one common format.
something's going on at the moment. the US film industry was supposed to release a number of good selling stuff on HD-DVD this year. they pulled out a week or so ago. hardly any if anything will be released this year.
now Sony has quite some shares in film studios, one could think they used their influence there.
and with the PS3 using blu-ray and supposed to be a media centre kinda unit, there might be an immediate interesting market mid of 2006.
I'll wait and see how it all pans out. I'm more interested in HDTV right now, with Sky opening pre-registration for their HDTV service later this week. A while before it actually launches, but I need the time to save up for a huge HDTV set :)

Just about to get the latest Pioneer. Saw it the other day in London and it was awsome. :)
What the fuck is a DVD?
less beer, less TV watching, more socialising, then you'll have friends who will explain this to you in full detail. :D
or should we have a forum on it?

I think a forum would be a good idea but who could be the MOD?
oh, i'd have my eye on a talented guy there. he has great knowledge on whatever he gets a hard on about this week. :D
alternatively whoever joins the board next could be picked.
Im am lucky, I am so far behind any any technology that when its finaly decided which format wins, Im still well over a year from getting it
heh. Toshiba announced they'll postpone the release of their HD-DVD players.
now with the X-Box 360 using regular DVD drives still and waiting on how the market reacts to new standards and Sony's upcoming PS3 using Blu-Ray, this might get HD-DVD into trouble.
