Am I the only one who thinks after all the fuss this month about slavery, that it was a good idea???
I started off thinking, it was bad.
Then on tv it stated that the economy and businessees developed via slavery.
Then it said slaves lived on average 3 years, so at least there would be a big demand.
I wish I had relatives who dealt with slavery then I would be rich now.
Slavery, it aint as bad as they make out. Free trip to the uk on a boat, not bad. Taking people away from ill health to quality uk, cool.
We would not have all these people sufering now in Africa, we could bring them over, give them 'jobs' and no more health problems.
Bring back slavery I say.
The American economy was built on slavery. There woul not be the wealth there is had it not been for slavery. Well there would but it certainly helped to mke America wealthy.

most people are slaves in relaity. just because they get paid does not make them less of a slave. i bet there are many working today work longer hours than slaves did years ago.

For many blacks slavery was the alternative to death. Many were criminals or the insane, or war prisoners who would have been put to death, but were spared as the chief would sell them to the slavers. OK, many of them would then die in transit or after a few years, so I'm not saying it was all "good news".
The popular view of slavery is driven by the TV series and book "Roots", which was very entertaining, but simplified the situation somewhat.
there was an exellent documentary on the beeb a few days back where a black brit found out that his great great (ect) grandfather was one of the last slaves brought out of africa by the british.
it was really revealing, he found out that the africans were the ones who sold his relative, that they themselves agreed with slavery (because they could get rid of "bad elements"), and that his relative actualy became an overseer himself.
Slavery has been abolished? Oh bollocks - why did nobody tell me??
