View Full Version : I want to arse rape BT
Oh they have really pissed me off now.
Precis of situation is this. I sent off Direct Debit mandate. They claim not to have got it. So cut me off with no warning. I call they say it will take 10 days to get the final bill, THEN I can pay them, THEN they can apply to have the line reconnected.
OK I say.
Then I call on Friday to check progress, when they tell me they have cancelled the broadband too (which was being paid).
I say ok, I will switch supplier then. I asked as they were cancelling the contract that this meant I would not be charged for the 12 month contract. THats right they said.
Today I get a bill for 200 odd quid cos there is a 9 month broadband charge.
ARGH
I am about to send them a turd in a box
Anyone got an idea how I can get out of this?

BT's got you screwed mate, you either pay them or they don't release your broadband so you can't go with another supplier. On top of that, most phone suppliers still need you to have a working BT line to rout the calls across.

I don't want a phone line, just interwebs. So have ordered virgin, they are installing on the 24th.
Just want to know if there is some way I can get out of the 190 quid charge seeing as THEY have decided to cancel the agreement...

OK. It's the least I can do.
I am really at the stage where I will pay it to get them out of my life. But I don't want to as I don't think I should have to.

Go with cable and knock BT

?
I thought a MAC was assigned to a network card.
What has that got to do with me swopping from ADSL on BT to Cable?

No idea about going from BT to cable, should be fine. But if you want to use your phone line for broadband you need some mac number thingie, I know this cause last week I had sky broadband put in and I had to get the mac thingie from BT before they could do anything, similar as when you change mobile phone supliers.
You are talking of going to virgin, that will be the same, virgin use your phone line for broadband they are not offering broadband by cable are they?

Although when i had a problem (they kept not coming to fit a phoneline) with them i emailed duncan.ingram@bt.com (head of customer service) i had an email back within the hour and it was fixed first thing monday morning.
Just be polite and explain and he will get it sorted.

I just spoke to Virgin and they said you do not need a BT line, they have taken over Telewest so its all cable.
So basically Damian knock the wankers ;)

Unless you cant get cable in your area. For example here I cant get cable
Wherever you live, we're there
Your home is in a non-cable area. That means though you can't get your services delivered by cable, you can still get great services from Virgin Media delivered down your BT phone line, just like everyone else.
Right now you can get:
* Fast, reliable broadband
* Great value home phone package
* Great value mobile phone deal
Tip: Send them someone else's turd in a box. So they can't prove it was you.

I have just got this email from BT:
A BT Home IT Visit means that with just one call, you can arrange a convenient appointment for a specialist BT engineer to come round and help with any of your frustrating computer issues, then and there1. Here are just a small selection of things they could help you with:
* Computer clean-up and PC health check to help your PC run faster, includes removing viruses, spyware and unwanted programs.
* Setting up wireless Internet connections so you can send emails (or do anything else web-related) anywhere from the loft to the garden.
* Installing new software, new devices or transferring all your data to a new computer.
* Setting up a wireless home network by connecting your computer, printer, webcam and games console wirelessly, allowing you to move around the house freely.
* Fault finding and fixing for almost any problem (large and serious or small and annoying) that affects your PC or Internet access.
So, don't get mad. Get a BT Home IT Visit from a fully qualified BT engineer.
And only £39.99 for the first half hour and £30 per half hour thereafter.
Let's face it, it's cheaper than getting screwed by a hooker (apart from those of you who use the 10p a go sort...)

Cheaper than most other service people that come to you house and sort out things you can't do yourself.

While they're there, they say "Your boiler looks dodgy and there are 20 slates missing from your roof, my mate can fix it all for £3000"

Check by phoning them as that information about there being no cable for Virgin in your area is often inaccurate/out of date. Most places are able to get it these days, I believe.
I'm with Virgin/telewest/ntl, it's been a decent service, no complaints, except for Sky pulling the plug on SkyOne cable channel (fekkin' Murdoch ).
Why did I read the title as "I want to arse rape JT"?

You weren't the only one. I'd gone as far as printing out a couple of model release forms.
