View Full Version : Virgin Media
Anyone use this. I just got a brochure through and it looks pretty good, well they wouldn't send out a brochure saying how crap it all is.
I'm just wondering what their braodband service is like?
I had virgin broadband in my old office and it was good for years, no probas at all, we run it along side BT Business and it was just as good

They do packages, so you can get braodband and TV for £20 per month. I might give it a go ;)

I got thier broadband, tv and phone. Now, i never had any problems till lately, my phone went off and it took them three weeks to fix it, then the other day my internet was down but i think it was a local thing. I would recommend them as it is good value for money and in the past ive had no trouble except these two times.

Nahh, never wanted Sky. I don't really like cable but its better than a dish.

I would try the TV and Broadband. I already have freeview but I don't get uk TV Gold which has some good stuff on. I take it you have to change your phone number if you get their phone service.

you dont need a dish to use their broadband or telephone, or even need to subscribe to sky I dont think

I've got Virgins Broadband, Phone & TV service and for 99.9% of the time it's fine. Broadband is nice and quick. Has its occassional problems but they're usually fixed pretty quick. Phone support seems to be slightly better since they became Virgin...
I'd recommend them overall I think.
They are pretty good when it comes to price matching too... If you spot an offer for either their own service, like broadband for £9.99 you can ring them up and they will put you on the offer even though you don't really qualify :)

I had a telewest box when i moved in and they used that and hooked it up but they can use a BT line too i think

Telewest
I've had two broadband connections with Virgin for 3 - 4 years. Very reliable and tech support's pretty good.
I've just switched to their telephone service as well. It isn't cable, just utilises the BT line. All UK calls (excluding 08 and 09 numbers) any time are included in the monthly charge. Combined cost of phone line and 8 Meg broadband is £19.99 per month per line, although I still have to pay monthly line rental to BT. Still saving money though.

Yeah this brochure I got today said that the price of the phone included line rental, so I'm presuming it will be done through their "cables" and you would need a new number. Unless thay have some deal with BT where they pay the line rental. Maybe they just mean their line rental and you still have to pay BT's.
I would try the TV and Broadband.
paying for a TV service? lifestyle change?

Yeah I might get a Licence one day as well :)
The thing is they do a package, so you can pay £20 and pick 2, I wouldn't want the phone unless I can keep this number, so the TV would be the next choice. Although I doubt I would be getting much more than I do with freeview, yeah fuck it I ain't getting the TV package.

Ignore the brochure. Call someone in sales using the 0845 number on their website.
We're using same number, same line (not cable), paying BT the monthly line rental and Virgin £19.99 per month for phone and 8 Meg broadband. It takes 5 - 10 days for the switch to take effect.

They use BT's cables, they buy in bulk and resell, they dont come and dig up the roads and lay new ones :)
edited to say unless things have changed masivly and Virgin are now offering cable

They used to, well they wouldn't dig the roads up but they would lay their own cables.
They used to
BT connects you for Virgin. Anyone selling broadband via the phone is using BT's lines. Only cable is different. Even sky you need a BT engineer to come out and connect you. Im pretty sure virgin dont offer cable unless they are reselling for telewest now to

Yeah i had telewest and they just came turned the phone on when i moved and i kept the same number. The house had telewest boxes too. Virgin only have a couple more channels than freeveiw to be honest and theres hardly any sky channels (no sky one for eg) cos they wouldnt pay sky for them.

Problem you'll have Geezer is if you sign up then later want to move away from them... My sister just did and they wouldn't let her transfer her number back to BT - they say its their property......
I've been with Virgin Media and all it's past names for a number years, right from when it started as Cable Internet.
I have the 10mb service, (going to 20mb in May) and can't fault it. Now that they have purchsed Virgin Mobile & Virgin.net. If you live in a non cabled area you can get up to 8mb ADSL via a BT line.
